1. The Sound of Moving Water.

Is there anything more relaxing than the sound of water? A babble, a rush, a fall? All of them are equally moving to the human spirit. The sound of water has long been associated with meditation and psychological relief. Set the tone of your yard with the movement of water. Fall in love with your own personal white noise.

2. Spending Time Outdoors

There are all kinds of health benefits from breathing fresh air and spending time outside. We all know by now that being outdoors can reduce depression and improve sleep, but it can be hard to break out of our homes and offices. Our ponds give us a reason. Our ponds also give us something to do out there as well. We love a reason and an activity to get us outside.

3. Caring for Koi Fish

Are they pets or are they family? Koi fish are beautiful swimmers that capture our attention as we stare off into our ponds. There are over 100 different types of Koi fish that vary in markings, color, shimmer, and fin shape. With the right size pond and other environmental factors, your family can love your Koi for well over 15 years.

4. Caring for Goldfish

Similar to Koi Fish, Goldfish are long-term residents of your pond. They can live between 10 to 15 years. Much smaller than Koi, you can raise more Gold Fish in your water feature than Koi. Gold Fish come in a variety of colors, despite their names. With their variety and numbers, we love that Gold Fish makes for lively pond residents.

5. Water Feature Design

We love our pond designs because the possibilities are endless. Your space, budget, and imagination are your only limitations. Natural ponds, swimming ponds, above-ground ponds with a fountain? How about a large waterfall, or a shallow stream? Good design is about functionality and capacity.

Your design is important for all the other reasons we love our ponds. A pond for swimming isn’t designed in the same way that a pond for fish would be. Regardless, Pond Elegance has been designing and building ponds for over three decades. The professionals at Pond Elegance create one-of-a-kind solutions for homeowners through their design process.

6. Pond Size

In the case of a pond, size does matter. The bigger the pond, the more you can love. The bigger the pond, the more it’s going to cost you as well. Good thing a residential pond is completely customizable. It is a factor in design, fish population, pump and filter sizes and so much more. What we love about pond size is that there isn’t a right or wrong size. There is a size that works well for your needs.

7. Emergent Plants

Plants are as important to a pond as fish. They give a pond its final look. Plants interact with water and wildlife in a way that creates a balanced ecosystem. We love our emergent plants. These are the plants that grow out of the water and wave in the wind. Some examples are elephant ears, cattails, and papyrus. We love the dimension emergent plants add to ponds.

8. Floating Plants

Floating plants offer shade to your fish. They also help reduce the growth of algae. These plants take nutrients straight from the water. There are many varieties of floating plants. Some that we love are Mosaic, Moneywort, and Water Hyacinth.

9. Lily and Lotus Plants

We absolutely love the Lily and Lotus plants. Both are emergent plants, but they are a special kind of beautiful. In fact, if your valentine is into water features, you may want to skip the roses and grab them a Lily or a Lotus. Their floating leaves and tall flowers give the pond a romantic, fairytale look that we love.

10. Pond Ecosystems

Sun, water, fish, and plants interact with one another to affect the look and health of our ponds. We love when the elements are in harmony and wildlife takes refuge at our ponds. Dragonflies skip across the water’s surface. Frogs leave behind their tadpoles. Birds bathe and drink. We love a healthy, inviting pond!

11. Likeminded Community

Much like the ecosystems we create, so goes the community we form as pond people. We talk about PH balances, UV bulb sizes, and pump pressures. We take pride in the health of our fish and plants. We create moments for ourselves and our guests that revolve around our unique water features. The Pond People community is big, growing, and so full of love!

12. Backyard Events

With a community like ours, there is always a reason to celebrate. Honestly, we don’t even need a reason to celebrate in order for us to gather around our ponds. With a backdrop like a fountain or a pond-less waterfall, playing host is all the more likely. Adorning your pond and garden with string lights, a few tables, and chairs, you have created magic for yourself and your guests. We love an outdoor events!

13. Learning Opportunity

Taking care of fish, plants, and a body of water takes practice and knowledge. With each new addition to your ecosystem, there is a learning curve. We love an ever-evolving challenge. If you also love ongoing skill-building, then you may find yourself in love with ponds too.

14. Shared Family Experiences

Sharing a water feature with children is a gift. There are many lessons to be learned about safety, nature, and growth cycles. There is also an opportunity for shared responsibility. We love spending time with the little ones in the spaces we work together to create and maintain.

15. Routine

Wake up, drink coffee, and then feed the Koi Fish? Maybe sit outside before sunset, and watch the Lilies close for the evening. How about a garden walk every day after school? We love that our ponds are a part of our daily routines. Where does your water feature fit into your day?

16. Inspiration

The sound of a waterfall splashing. The colorful dancing of goldfish. The reflections of plants mirrored on top of the water. These are just a few things that could influence an idea. Creativity comes from mental stimulation. We love that our ponds move us to feel and act on our feelings.

17. Curb Appeal

Water features are personal in nature. They satisfy homeowners, but they can also entice potential new homeowners. As mentioned before, these outdoor spaces represent calmness and relaxation. They offer so much to those willing to maintain them or have them maintained. For the right buyer, the curb appeal of a fountain or waterfall could be the deciding factor in purchasing a property.

18. Home Value

A well-maintained water feature adds to the multisensory experience we’ve been harping about. If a buyer is looking for their own slice of natural serenity, then your outdoor respite has added value to your home sale. It’s another story when the water feature isn’t a healthy ecosystem.

19. Liners

The thing about liners is, you have to have one to build your pond. We love a thick, 45 mil rubber liner that is sold by the linear foot. A custom pond is a great option for creating your unique yard oasis. A rigid, preformed-plastic liner doesn’t allow for the freedom of creativity or size. For a pond that will last the test the time, the thicker the liner, the better.

20. Pumps

We love water movement. In order for the water to keep moving, you need a proper pump. Based on the design, you’ll need a submersible or non-submersible pump sized for the volume of water it will be moving. If all of this seems like a lot to figure out on your own, don’t worry. We love to help our community learn and grow their outdoor spaces. Pond Elegance remains the leader in pond supplies for the gulf coasts of Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida.

21. Filters

The best possible filter is an Ultra Violet Clarifier. We don’t love green water. That green water is really single-celled algae that have taken over your ecosystem. Pumped through the UV Clarifier, the algae are killed. The by-product of the dead algae clumps together and falls to the bottom of the pond. We love that the water stays clear. Remember, talk to an expert to size your pump and filter properly.

22. Fountains

There is such a romantic quality to fountains. Stand-alone or jutting out of a pond, fountains give our water spaces the sounds we love and the movement we need. Moving water creates aeration. Aeration keeps the mosquitos at bay and adds the oxygen plants and fish need to stay healthy. We love a dramatic pluming fountain and interesting spitters.

23. Lights

We love mood lighting around our ponds. How can you feel love if you can’t see the pond? Enjoying your waterscape in the evening and night hours requires lighting. We love a well-lit path and a perimeter of string lights.

24. DIY Creativity

We love making our own moments happen! If you have the time, the tools, and the information you need, then you can always design and dig your own pond. Use this list and the right supplier to get your mechanics, plants, and fish.  You should know what you need by now, but the folks at Pond Elegance are ready to assist professionals and hobbyists with a wide selection of supplies, brands, fish, and aquatic plants.

25. Waterfalls

Waterfalls are the showstoppers in the pond world. There are a surprising number of different styles of waterfalls. The most distinct waterfall types are the plunge and the cascade. Each type adds its own sound and mood to your pond. It’s also entirely possible to have a pond-less waterfall. That’s the beauty of a waterfall, it can be a feature all on its own. We love a dramatic waterfall.

26. Streams

We love a calm trickling stream too! Similar to a waterfall, the stream is a continuous flow of water. Streams can exist with or without a pond as well. Imagine a walking path running parallel to a babbling stream of layered slate rocks. Streams are a lot less showy than other water features, but they have the power to alter the look and feel of your environment all the same.

27. Surrounding Garden

Our ponds and water features may have our hearts, but we still love the yards and gardens that surround them. The wildlife that enjoys your custom ecosystem also enjoys the naughty bugs that attack your rose bushes and vegetable patches. The frogs and birds you attract help to fight the pests you detest. ()

28. Professional Care

Last, but not least, we love enjoying our ponds and leaving the maintenance to the professionals. As relaxing as they are, water features require cleaning and servicing to keep the water clean, plants healthy, and fish growing. If you’re on the gulf coast, Pond Elegance is known for its professional maintenance and repair packages.

Clearly, we love an outdoor space adorned with a custom water feature and we aren’t alone in our infatuation. With Spring just around the corner, consider what your backyard is doing for your mood, the environment, and your home value. Are you ready to fall in love with an aquascape of your own?
